If you’re looking for an alternative, green and beautiful destination for this year’s holiday, New Zealand is the place to be. New Zealand is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. Away from everything, New Zealand combines modern European culture with the traditional Māori of the region. Here are some thing you can do in the largest city of New Zealand, Auckland.
If you are feeling adventurous, then you will find that climbing a volcano is the best thing you can do in Auckland. Mount Eden is the highest volcano in Auckland and it features three main craters in a row, creating an oval shape covered in green. The Ngati Whatua tribe guards the mountain and you can enjoy a guided walk of the mountain and its surroundings, while a tribe member narrates the mountain’s rich history.
If you’re feeling a little bit more artsy, then visiting Auckland’s art gallery is one thing you can’t miss! There are around 800 artworks on display but a highlight is the opportunity to view paintings by one of New Zealand’s leading portrait painters, Gottfried Lindauer. The featured paintings are of major Māori figures from the 19th century. The detailed work makes the paintings look like photographs. The best way to experience the gallery is by joining a guided tour. Tours run daily at 11:30 am and 1:30 pm, and the Auckland art gallery is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm, except Christmas day.
