If you’re not sure where you want to travel for the new year, buckle up and have a look below at some of the best travel locations for 2017:
Canary Islands, Spain. For a fantastic place to visit after a long, cold winter, these islands offer the perfect destination because of their warm climate year round. The Canary Islands are an archipelago of seven main islands in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the northwest coast of Morocco in North Africa. The islands were formed from volcanic eruptions and shaped by desert winds and their landscapes are adorned in 160 miles of exceptionally beautiful coastline and beaches.
Tenerife. Tenerife is the largest of the Canaries, which prides itself on its mountains, forests, and beach landscapes. You can enjoy a day of hiking at the Mount Teide National Park, where a cable car takes you up to the summit. Expect to find some fertile wine vineyards up north in Taraconte.
Fuerteventura. This is the oldest of the Canary Islands. It’s known for its dry climate and white sandy beaches. Here you can visit the Dunes National Park, go snorkeling, scuba diving or take a short ferry ride to the Island of Lobos.
El Hiero. The smallest of the Canary Islands, it’s been traveled the least amount which makes it a complete getaway. This island offers views of volcanic craters, forests and the entire island from it’s highest peak. Natural swimming pools of water can be found on El Hierro in the north, along with food and wine which is cultivated on the island.
In addition to miles of coastline, the Canary Islands are home to some exquisite ancient architecture and delightful villages and towns. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, and entertainment spots to visit on the islands. All you need are a good pair of walking shoes and a camera to take in the gorgeous scenery.
The Great Lakes, U.S.A. If you’ve never been to any of America’s five Great Lakes, this is a trip you’ll never forget. They’re located on the U.S./Canadian border, surrounded by the states of New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. The beauty of these five lakes, Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie and Ontario is the largest fresh surface water system on earth.
Lake Superior. You can get on a six-day river cruise from Ontario to Montreal. You’ll see forest filled parks which include fishing, boating, and kayaking. Lodging can be found lakeside and you can be sure to see a lot of wildlife on this outing.
Lake Michigan. You’ll find some lovely beach towns here, along with Milwaukee’s lakeside art gallery and Harley Davidson Museum.
Lake Huron. Expect to find farms and forests along these shorelines, along with campsites and bed & breakfasts. Manitoulin Island is located here, the largest freshwater island in the world.
